Hi, I’m Grace. Welcome to Gut Foodie!
I created this blog to share simple, everyday recipes made with whole foods that make healthy eating feel doable, satisfying, and less stressful.
I’ve been a health nut for more than 25 years and I’ve tried my share of diets. I’ve learned that restrictions don’t work for me. It’s all about balance. For years, I struggled with sugar cravings and couldn’t figure out why I was hungry again within one to two hours after eating a healthy meal. It was mentally exhausting.
Last year, I learned about the importance of food order when my mom was diagnosed with prediabetes. The method is really simple, but it took a little trial and error to figure out what ratio worked for me. I didn’t change what I ate, just the portions and the order: lots of veggies first, high protein and healthy fats next, and less carbs, saving them for last.
This simple change, sometimes called meal sequencing, has completely changed my life. My meals keep me satisfied for hours and my sugar cravings have disappeared. I now have a healthier relationship with food. I still enjoy a treat after a meal, but I can easily pass on high-sugar desserts now, which I was never able to do before. Of course, I’m human and still indulge once in a while!
You’ll find easy meals made from scratch with lots of veggies, plenty of protein and healthy fats, along with lower sugar snacks and treats, meal prep ideas, pickling, and fermented foods. My cooking is mostly Mediterranean with a little global influence, and I test every recipe before I share it here.
I’m a self-taught cook and learned so much from my Italian mom, who is the best cook I know! Okay, I might be a little biased, but if you tasted her food, you’d understand. You’ll definitely see some of her influence here too.
I’m based in Boston, and when I’m not in the kitchen, I enjoy growing goodies in my community garden, mushroom hunting, and biking. I’m also a bit of a compost geek and even consider my red wigglers pets. Don’t judge me.
Gut Foodie isn’t about rules, restrictions, or eating perfectly. It’s about balance and food freedom.
When you treat your body like your best friend, it will thank you.
